In the news: Movies encourage teenagers to smoke
The BBC has reported on ESRC funded research carried out by the UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies. The research suggests that teenagers who saw the most films showing smoking were 73 per cent more likely to have tried smoking, compared with those who had seen the least. There is much debate about whether the British Board of Film Classification should be doing more to manage this “harmful imagery”. Further information can be found on the BBC website and in our recent ESRC feature.
